When one sees those beautiful pictures of structures at Geeli Mitti, what one cannot visualize is the amount of love, laughter, rituals and sweat that go in each one of them. Moreover, Holi celebration with natural colors, mud and lots of dance became another highlight. Shagun Di and her entire team always ensured at all times that each one of us is comfortable during the entire workshop, not to mention the efforts they all put in to make each session on any topic comprehensive and yet so simple to grasp. Alongside, there was so much focus on living mindfully, sustainable living with all beings, incorporating greener alternatives even at such a large scale with an inflow of so many participants at every workshop they conduct, beautiful mornings, safe and cheerful environment, quality and delicious meals at all times, music, dance and fun, leaving no person be it a kid or any adult behind. Little did I know that the workshop would be so much more than just everything about natural building. I have known this place from December but was eagerly waiting for an intensive workshop like this one to understand and learn the concepts, techniques, tricks and tips of building with natural materials.
Geeli Mitti organized an intensive workshop on natural building with Holi celebration in March that I was a part of. I send out loads of love to team Geeli Mitti! Missing you and I will be back soon! <3 Once you experience her passion for what she does, you will keep going back to her. I highly recommend going to Geeli Mitti just to meet Shagun if nothing else. The list is of small treats you get while you are here is an endless one: like getting home made facepacks and hair shampoo from Shagun, movies marathons, dancing, singing, cooking, trekking in the morning and at night, celebrating birthdays like little kids do and so much more! Besides this, the stars, the silence, the sounds of nature, the people and their many stories were a beautiful cherry on cake! We got a hands on experience in pretty.much every aspect of building a home using natural materials from scratch! We danced away while we teamed on the many tasks that went into building our Yoga space by the chirpy river. The workshop was a great place to start with in my unlearning of all that I was taught/thought about building materials.
It was a workshop that opened my eyes to so many new possibilities of living in sync with nature, to become more aware of the my daily choices, to become more responsible of my actions in order to make a difference. Ahhh, what can I say about Geeli Mitti and the gorgeous, saintly, quirky, charismatic witch, Shagun who runs the show up there! No words can do justice to my experience of a workshop on basics on sustainable housing that I attended in March 2022.
